digital content

In My Humble Opinion

I love stories. We do all have a story to tell, which is why programmes such as the BBC’s Desert Island Discs, a jaunt through the lives of the great and the good told through their choice of eight music tracks, has proved so enduringly popular and interesting.

I believe we all have a story to tell and learning to tell it is one the great lessons in life. Video is another wonderful medium for capturing a story, using typography, photograghy, image, moving image, voice and music, and can be incredibly powerful and creative. I love this video, for its creativity, but also for its sense of freedom and adventure.

A story well told, is a wonderful powerful tool inspiring more story telling. The challenge for content producers is learning to tell stories and choosing the right medium for them. Nevertheless we can always be inspired and this video always inspires me.

Data engineers replace old-fashioned hacks

Today saw the launch of the first ever International Data Journalism Awards by the Global Editors...

And this is the frontpage of Wordpress. Many others, such as Wordpress are playing the video explaining what SOPA is and what it’s impact could be on the Internet.

To begin with, I was slightly ambivalent about this legislation, but actually my personal view, and I must stress it is my personal view, is that this is horrendous legislation that should be stopped.

Online democracy is essential for the Internet to continue to flourish, drive innovation and help promote democracy throughout the world. Anything that controls what is published, will only lead to big corporations and governments shutting down smaller sites on the basis of IP fraud, but this will stifle competition and reduce freedom of expression and it needs to be stopped.

The Internet has its faults, and yes it can cause can concern at times, but at it’s heart is freedom of expression and democracy, these are incredibly important values that need to be protected at all costs.

Welcome to my tumblr blog. I’ll hopefully post some entertaining and interesting things about digital content, as that’s my job. Or it could be more random and include digital ideas I like and photos I take. Hopefully, they will be entertaining as well. I suspect their maybe some food porn too…like this shot above taken of me eating Sunday lunch at the fantastic Wiveton Cafe on the north Norfolk coast.
